David C. Andreassen

David C. Andreassen of Scotch Plains, New Jersey died Thursday, September 3. He was born on

September 25, 1936 in Plainfield and grew up and attended school in Westfield. In 1962 he graduated

from the Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. In 1966, he obtained a master’s degree

in horticulture from Rutgers University - Cook College.

He was employed at Allied Chemical as a research biologist and then for the rest of his career as an

Environmental Protection Specialist with the United States Environmental Protection Agency. During his

40-year service at EPA he received several commendations and retired in 2010.

David Andreassen is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Inger J. Andreassen and his children

Steven (Jamie) and Lise (Philip), and four grandchildren Karena, Jakob, Ryan, and Shawn. He was

known by all for his generous spirit, good humor, and kindness. In his spare time, he became an

accomplished fine woodworker, gardener, and cherished grandfather.

A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, September 8 and a funeral service on Wednesday, September 9 at

the Gray & Pescitelli Funeral Home in Cranford. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to

St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
