Elaine Ann Magliulo

Elaine Magliulo, 99, of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, passed away on September 15, 2026, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of family, faith, education, and service to her community.

Elaine was a graduate of Maryville College in Tennessee, where she earned her degree in 1947. Her passion for education led her to a lifelong career as a teacher in Cranford, where she taught at both Cranford Middle School and Cranford High School. Dedicated to continuing her own education, Elaine went on to earn her Master’s degree from Seton Hall University. Throughout her years as an educator, she took great pride in teaching and in the many students whose lives she had the opportunity to touch.

In 1957, Elaine married Vincent Magliulo, with whom she shared 40 years of marriage until his passing in 1997. Together, they built a family that remained one of the greatest joys of Elaine’s life.

Elaine was deeply devoted to her faith and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Roselle. She served the church as an Elder and especially enjoyed lending her voice to the church choir. Her involvement in the church community was an important and meaningful part of her life.

Outside of her church and professional life, Elaine enjoyed staying active and engaged in her community. An avid bridge player, she belonged to several bridge clubs over the years and treasured the friendships and fellowship she found around the card table. She was also a member of the College Women’s Club of Cranford.

Above all, Elaine cherished her family. She is survived by her sons, James and his wife, Ellen; Jeffrey; and Gerald and his wife, Jane. She was the loving grandmother of Stacey, Jeffrey Jr., the late Jenna, Stefanie, and Rebecca, and the proud great-grandmother of Griffin, Cole, Malcolm, and Miles.

Elaine is also survived by her brother, John Kern, Sr., a retired Colonel of California, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Elaine’s 99 years were filled with the people and pursuits she valued most—her family, her faith, education, music, friendship, and community. Her long life and the many relationships she nurtured throughout it will be remembered with love by her family, friends, former students, and all those fortunate enough to have known her.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in her honor.
